Overall, the biggest problem was writing in full-length novel form. Howard created the character and world for pulp-magazine short stories, and they are perfect for that. I envisioned short novels of about 50,000 word length. Tor wanted 75,000 word minimun, which is why you see a lot of digressions and irrelevant side-stories. They kept sending back the manuscripts for more padding out. In short, I think they were successful books on their own terms, but there were things I would have done differently had it been up to me.

Лично я от такого подхода не в восторге. Лучше бы было немного изменить произведение, а не плодить своих версий. Все бы были довольны и читателям не пришлось бы недоумевать.
